This position is assigned to Parnall Office located in Jackson, MI, other locations may be considered as well. The candidate must be located within commutable distance of the locations OR willing to relocate (relocation package available to those who qualify).

We are looking for: Prin Civil Engineer

The Principal Civil Engineer is a specialist in design, planning, and oversight for the construction of infrastructure complex projects. These can include renovation and construction of varying structures such as; buildings, dams, pipelines, etc. The principal civil engineer will be the point of contact and responsible for ensuring department projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. They will lead a team of engineers and technicians on moderately complex projects, delegating work and responsibilities to lower-level engineers.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software
  • Thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, pipelines, and other related structures
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical
  • Detail-oriented and accurate

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with seven (7) or more years of applicable engineering experience
    • [OR] Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with seven (7) or more years of applicable engineering experience

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs
  • Uses design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs; plans and designs other necessary and related systems and structures such as transportation or hydraulics
  • Prepare feasibility studies, reports, designs, calculations, cost estimates, construction schedules, and other technical documentation
  • Assesses strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel by testing materials and soil using appropriate methods to ensure safe modifications/building
  • Perform fieldwork and data collection as necessary and undertake fieldwork when required, such as soil testing and surveying
  • Sets design specifications by computing load and grade requirements, material stress factors, flow rates, and similar parameters
  • Comply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, and professional standards
  • Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data
  • Estimates materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine project costs
  • Prepare proposals, reports, specifications, calculations, and other deliverables as required
  • Drafts and presents reports on topics related to projects such as environmental impact statements and right-of-way descriptions that adhere to all local, state, and federal codes and regulations
  • Collaborates with internal coworkers, architects, contractors, surveyors to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction & to ensure projects progress properly
  • Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards are met; upon completion of a project, inspects, repairs, and maintains the structures as needed
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
