Malteser Tiffin (Yummy No Bake Tray Bake) - My Morning Mocha (1)

Malteser tiffin is one of those desserts I think everyone should know about: It’s delicious, popular and pretty much the easiest dessert you can ever make!

I recently made a beautiful marbled chocolate tiffin and tasty Biscoff tiffin which was amazing, and this Malteser tiffin recipe is just as good. As soon as I put this traybake on the table it’s GONE in minutes (of course I keep a couple for myself to eat later).

Who doesn’t love Maltesers? They taste good in pretty much everything, especially gooey Malteser brownies. If you’re not the biggest fan of Maltesers, then you can always make this no bake fridge cake with other ingredients such as chocolate raisins.

I like to crush some of the Maltesers and leave a few whole, which is poured into a mixture of melted butter, golden syrup, chocolate and rich tea biscuits. Get your toothbrush ready, the crushed Malteser centre always sticks to my teeth! Despite this, I love them so much! They’re perfect for both adults and kids.

Recipe Ingredients

Chocolate: I used milk chocolate; any brand of chocolate will do. If you don’t want this tiffin too sweet, then you can go for dark chocolate. If you’re a sweet tooth, you can use white chocolate or go for a mixture.

Butter: Salted or unsalted is fine to use.

Golden Syrup (Honey): You can use golden syrup or honey; I use whichever one I have in my house at the time.

Rich Tea Biscuits: I love making tiffin with rich tea biscuits. Though traditional recipes call for digestive biscuits, using digestive biscuits is not the same! Rich tea biscuits add an extra crunch which marries perfectly with chocolate tiffin.

Maltesers: A pack of Maltesers are added into the tiffin mixture and an extra pack is used for the topping. How you decorate the tiffin is up to you; I crushed some, left some whole and chopped the rest in half then sprinkled it on top of the tiffin.

Equipment Needed

One of the best things about making this Malteser tray bake recipe other than it being a no bake dessert (that’s why it’s also called a fridge cake), is that the equipment needed is very minimal. High fives all round! Below is the few equipment needed to make this recipe.

9″ Baking Tin: You’ll need a baking tin, in this your tiffin mixture will cool and harden. For this recipe I used a 9″ baking tin.

Parchment Paper: To line the baking tin for easy tiffin removal.

Mixing Bowls: To melt the butter, golden syrup and chocolate. This is a one bowl recipe, so you can add the crushed biscuits and Maltesers into the same bowl once the mixture has been melted. Yay to hardly any washing up!

Make this recipe even easier with this.

Tips For The Best Malteser Slice

When melting the butter, golden syrup and chocolate, it’s best to melt on a medium heat until the butter has melted. Then take the bowl out of the microwave and stir, you’ll notice the chocolate will continue to melt. If the chocolate hasn’t fully melted and you’re left with a couple chunks, place the bowl back in the microwave. Heat for a few seconds, then take it out and stir again till completely melted. I melt the ingredients this way to prevent the mixture from splitting and burning.

When breaking rich tea biscuits into small pieces, don’t break them all into tiny pieces that it resembles dust. It’s best to have a variety of sizes, leave a couple big pieces it provides a contrasting colour when the tiffin is cut into slices. Also add smaller pieces and crumbs to help the Malteser tiffin stick together.

Only cut the tiffin when it has completely cooled down and set!

If you want the topping to look nice and neat, chop the Maltesers in half with a knife and place on top.

For a cleaner work surface, I always crush the Malteser pieces in the packet by pressing each one with my fingers, rather than placing them on a plate and crushing with a wooden spoon.

When Melting The Butter, Golden Syrup And Chocolate:

Chocolate Topping

I used 200g of chocolate which makes a thin chocolate topping (as shown in the video and pictures). If you want a thicker chocolate topping, add more chocolate. You can double the chocolate ingredients and use 400g of chocolate.
